There are so many ways to tell a story. You can start at the beginning and make sure the reader know everything that’s going on. You can have a point of view character who learns things as an excuse to teach the reader what is going on. You can do it all as a flashback or memoir and have a different frame for everything.
Or you can just throw all of that out the window and trust that your audience understands the conventions of the genre you’re in and can fill in a lot of the blanks for themselves.Continue Reading

There are a lot of good comic publishers out there. You know what the world needs? Another one. For real. Especially one where I’m friends with one of the founders.
How can we ever have one of those? Maybe Patrick Hickey Jr can help solve that problem with Legacy Comix. And of course, you can help make that happen by helping to support their Kickstarter launch which was fully funded in 5 hours. So yeah, I’d say things are off to a good start.

I can’t get into first person shooters. But let’s get it even wider than that, I usually can’t get into shooters at all. They’re just not my genre of choice.
Patrick Hickey Jr. might just change that with his latest book The Minds Behind Shooter Games. I’ll probably never be good at them but after reading the background that Patrick was able to pick up. I might not love the games, but I love hearing about the stories behind how these games came into existence.
