Welcome, fellow gamers and comic book aficionados, to another electrifying episode of Play Comics! The cool thing about comic creators is that they tend to like comics. Which means that whoever your favorite comic creator is probably has a favorite comic. But what happens when you find the source of basically everything? And can you get past the fact that it feels so cliche because it’s the source of all of the cliche feelings?

Listen in as Allen Dunford comes by to talk about his favorite comic, which makes sense because he is a comic creator. But will this game give us an idea of why so many people love the manga? Or will it just rely on having a big sword and hoping that the cool factor there carries us through the story?Continue Reading

It’s the year [insert future year here] and mankind has probably destroyed the Earth because of course they did. How did we/they get here/there? Don’t know, and there’s a ton of lore to figure out before we can know what happened. War is a mess y’all. It’s not like you can just read a few books and know exactly what happened.

Good thing we have my friend Erinn here to help sort things out. Listen in as we try to make sense of, well, everything in the Gundam universes and probably miss some things because there’s so much of it and we only have so much show to talk about it in.Continue Reading

We all know KISS the band, right? Those makeup wearing rock dudes who just want to rock and party and put on a good show. Well, did you know that they’ve had comics stretching back to the early days of their career? Or that there’s a game based on one of the runs? I didn’t. Well, I knew there was the KISS game but only that it existed.

Good thing I have Scarlett O’Dell from Gatecrashers here to help straighten everything out. Listen in as I get taught a few lessons but also potentially release a monster out into the world.Continue Reading

It’s not often that I’ve seen a comic really follow along an entire family tree. Maybe a bit down the line but generation after generation after generation after….. well, you get the idea. Too bad I’m not a expert on the Jostar family legacy.

Good thing David Weinburger from Shonen Flop who thankfully is all over this one. Things will probably get a bit bizarre.Continue Reading

You know what’s a great idea? Being a game publisher/developer and just buying a comic publisher so you can have IP to make games with a built in audience? So should you grab Marvel or DC? How about Valiant? Yup, that’s what happened.

Listen in as Insane Ian comes on the show to take a stab at Shadow Man for the N64, PS1, and Sega Dreamcast and we try to figure out if this game is good or not because it’s in a really awkward place and we can’t quite figure it out.Continue Reading

This is what the rest of the Capcom fighters focusing on Marvel characters was all leading to. One of the greatest fighting games ever made. The reason to own a Dreamcast. The epic mashup of two legendary companies that has no reason to exist in this world but does anyway.

Listen in as Trent Seely from Continuity Nod comes to talk about what is possibly one of the best games every made. Period. End of discussion.Continue Reading

One of the things that I really love about Spider-Man is how big the cast of other characters is, especially the crossover with other Marvel heroes. Maybe some of that is because he’s the first place I really saw that.

And maybe some of why the first Spider-Man game for PS1 is my all time favorite Spider-Man game in the whole world no question is because it’s the first one I really got to play through over and over and over. Listen in as Paul Csomo from Varmints joins the show to finally talk about what is possibly the game that I get asked about doing the most. Easily top 3 worst case.Continue Reading

Marvel vs Capcom. You knew this day was comping. An epic showdown between some of your favorite comic characters against some of your favorite video game characters. No reasons besides it’s cool. Do you really need one?

Listen in as John Horsley from Spoiler Country joins the show to talk about this wonderful gem of a game that we all owe so much to. And the PlayStation version that isn’t quite as good.Continue Reading
